The brief for this project was to take a BBC long read article and create a new and dynamic way for the reader to interoperate the story. For this I created a book containing illustrations made with a combination of traditional and digital techniques to visually highlight moments of the article.
The story follows Ishbel Holmes journey growing up and overcoming many difficulties in her cycling career. I wanted the visuals to demonstrate how little Ishbel trusted humans until Lucy, the dog restored her faith in humanity. Therefore all the humans are illustrated in black and white until she meets Lucy where her world returns to full colour. The book is comprised of illustrations and postcard style backs where the whole book is like a package of letters to her companion and best friend - Lucy.
